Within our Centre for Social Innovation (our fancy name for our Library) we are fortunate to have two recording studios for staff and student use that collectively form Kitchen+Fridge Studios.
The Kitchen Studio opened in 2017, shortly after the school opened.
The Fridge Studio followed in late 2018 upon delivery of our Framery Acoustics Pod.
The Kitchen Studio is exactly that… a recording studio in the kitchen of the Centre for Social Innovation. Not exactly soundproof – being in a kitchen comes with its challenges, but we manage.
Comprised of four Rode NT1 Studio microphones connected to a Behringer XENYX Q1202USB Mixer and an iMac this was our first studio and was the most popular studio until the Fridge came along.
The Fridge Studio is not in fact a fridge, but rather a modified Framery Acoustics meeting pod.
Shortly after delivery someone asked “what are we going to call this thing?”. The answer: “Looks like a big fridge.”
The meeting pod is outfitted with two Rode PodMics connected to a Presonus AudioBox 96 USB interface. Despite the equipment not being as sophisticated as the Kitchen Studio… this is the popular place to record.
