Songs of hope and words of wisdom could be heard all around the world as celebrities and influential figures took the time to share and bring inspiration from their homes to ours. Music Festival: Global Citizen alongside pop superstar Lady Gaga organized a virtual concert which aired live Saturday, April 18 at 8 pm ET. Performers such as Beyoncé, Elton John, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Jenifer Lopez performed and spoke about the impact of the Coronavirus while educating individuals on the troubling realities some are facing. This concert was, in one word: outstanding. Each performer brought their unique style and talent to their performances along with passionate messages. The songs were selected by the artist performing, each having a powerful message of hope and inspiration.

Lady Gaga just wants you to “Smile” and Billie Eilish sends her love as she sings “Sunny” accompanied by her brother, Finneas, on the piano. Beyoncé spoke out about “coronavirus killing black people at alarming rate in America” and co-host, Jimmy Kimmel, showed his appreciation for frontline workers by giving a food-delivery worker a fresh pizza and pie (made by his wife), a roll of toilet paper and topping it off with “clean money” in a ziplock bag! Every performance was followed by inspirational, and at times, heartbreaking stories of communities rising to the challenge of defeating the virus. The concert layout was great, easy-to-follow with experienced and hilarious hosts. It appears quite evident it was nothing short of spectacular as it raised $127.9 million in donations! I encourage you to watch the performances by visiting Global Citizen’s YouTube channel.
